“The company notified us 30minutes before arrival, which is always nice. Staff was courteous during visit. Office manager Lisa was very pleasant to work with.”

“Keidon was awesome! Except he didn't clean the silicone caulking from the base from the old toilet (looks like heck!) and now I have 2 scratches on my stone floor that I didn't notice until after he'd left. Thanks for coming on a Saturday though, kiddo!!”

“First for the good part of this review. Our technician, Chris, was by far one of the best I have ever worked with. Polite, easy to understand, left the work space neat and tidy. Five stars and more for him. Now the bad part. EXTEREMLY EXPENSIVE! Almost akin to price gouging...and to a senior citizen at that! Well over 400.00 for a Glacier Bay faucet from Home Depot, plus an emergency shut off valve. A total of $762.00!!! Waited all day for a tech to be dispatched, it was after 5pm before the work was started. Kind of had us over a barrel by that time. Choice of fix leak immediately or wait to shop around, while still dealing with said leak. While I can recommend Chris, I can not recommend American Rooter and Drain.”

“Ryan was very respectful and informative. From what I can see everything was done properly and completely. David was also informative and respectful. A simple cleaning of drains was 2,300 dollars for 8 man hours. That adds up to $285.50 per man hour. Simple water pressure hose down our drains. We could have done that for a lot less money. The estimate for fixing our problem was so large I could hardly believe it. $22,000 for a repair of our drain was outrageous. Are you kidding! They also estimated a simple bathroom sink and faucet replacement of $1300.”

“I gave McCrea/American Rooter and Drain a 3 Star because they charged $90 to give a quote based on a 5 minute in person inquiry. I understand that technician's time and travel costs money, but spending 5 mins and receiving more of a salesman style pitch was off-putting. The quote I received for hydro jetting my main line was $1000+, compared to other companies $700 range. They did not seem to really spend the time or effort learning what really needed to be performed, and just lunged straight into a iPad full of numbers that started at $1000 and only went higher. Also, I responded to this company from a flyer that had coupons on it. Reflecting back, their pricing was not very transparent and I doubt the coupon I referenced was even accounted for, or if they simply inflated their prices to make it look like the coupon was taken out. Be weary and critical before you consider using this company. Recommendation to company: perhaps the reason you started charging for a quote was because you were receiving a poor call backs/returns on quotes you were giving for free (which aren't really free, but built into the cost of doing business) because your prices were inflated.”

“****Update**** I was immediately contacted by a representative wanting to work on creating a solution. She listened intently to my concerns regarding my experience and seemed genuinely concerned. She said she would pass my suggestions on to her supervisor regarding further educating the staff of installers to insure things were done properly. She also promised to speak with her supervisor about further options to insure issues like this didn't happen again. I honestly did not expect to hear from the company again. A few days later, she called again and offered a refund of 50% of the furnace install to further help with the situation of my satisfaction. I would like to make it known, I never at any time asked for compensation from the company. My true concern was future customers being taken care of properly. While I was not happy with the way we were treated throughout this process, I was more than satisfied with how hard they worked to make it right. They talked to me on at least 4 occasions to try to solve my issues and personally delivered a check to me. I am willing to continue working with McCrea for my yearly maintenance and see how it goes.**** I own a local business and our AC wasn't working. We called on Thursday and the soonest They could get someone out was Monday. It is the busy season so I expected that. They came and expected the unit and said we needed a whole new system, so we purchased a new system. They said they could do the install the next day. They showed up the next day as promised. They installed the new AC unit and furnace. At the end of the day, the installer told me that he wasn't supposed to install the furnace and he would have to come back the next day and remove it or we would have to pay an additional $3,000 to finish the install and make it operational. We decided to move forward and pay the additional money. They said they would be back first thing in the morning. The next day, no one came. I called at 11am. The lady that answered the phone said we were not on the schedule and she knew nothing about anyone coming out to finish the install. She said They would not be able to come out that day because they already had people scheduled for that day. I asked her why people scheduled after us were given priority when we were scheduled for the day prior. She could not answer my question. Installers finally showed up about 4:30pm. They said the wrong system was installed and they needed to go to Caldwell to get the correct system. They also said the installer from the day before had put the wrong coil in and it didn't fit the system that was installed so he rigged it to fit. They had to to remove the whole system and reinstall the correct system. They didn't leave until after 9pm. During this time, my husband had to make several calls to find out why they weren't showing up, why they didn't have the right equipment, why they were charging us extra, etc., and we received several apologies and were repeatedly told they "would make it right with us." The following day, the equipment still was not operational and the final inspector had to come out before anything could be used. He didn't come out until almost 5pm. He inspected the equipment and it didn't work. He had to rewire the system in order to get it operational. Once he finally got the system working (7:30 pm) we received no discount, nothing to "make it right." The guy was irritated that he was still there, had us sign the invoice, wanted payment, and left. The system itself works well. It took 4 days, a total of 10 installers, 6 phone calls, an extra $3,000 and a whole lot of additional stress. I will NOT even use this company for yearly maintenance. I couldn't be more disappointed.”

“Tankless water heater.Communication has been difficult. Still waiting for job to be completed. Install was Tuesday; on Friday no word on when they will come back to finish. ( functioning but needs additional parts I’m told) also I’m not able to adjust temp. Can’t figure it out, wasn’t given any instructions. Water will only get lukewarm. Techs were very nice.”

“I’m giving 2 stars because, while the people who came out were professional, respectful, and took good care of my home, the overall experience left me feeling like I was being taken advantage of. Their $59 special sounded appealing, and they did attempt to clear my kitchen sink drain. However, their powered snake only made it about 15–20 feet before the cable kinked up due to resistance in the line. The drain was not cleared. What really concerned me was what happened next. Rather than trying a larger or heavier-duty snake or exploring other options, they jumped straight to recommending water jetting and quoted me over $1,300. For comparison, I called Roto-Rooter afterward and explained what only I had already tried. Without skipping a beat, they said they would use a larger, higher-powered snake and go up to 100 feet before considering something as extreme as water jetting. They encountered the same resistance around 15–20 feet, but their heavier-duty equipment was able to get through it. They eventually found the clog about 70 feet down the line and cleared it in about 20 minutes. The cost was just over $300. Roto-Rooter also explained that before considering water jetting, there were additional options they could try, including using different cutting heads. They were willing to work through those options before jumping to the most expensive solution. The camera situation also bothered me. Roto-Rooter was willing to use a camera before resorting to water jetting. This company told me they wouldn’t use a camera until after trying water jetting. They also said they would “throw in” the camera, even though camera inspection was listed as a separate cost item on the $1,300 estimate. I also found it strange that the $1,300 estimate included $400 for jetting one line, but I couldn’t simply choose that service—it was apparently only available as part of the $1,300 package. That didn’t make much sense to me. The person giving me the estimate also seemed extremely nervous throughout the conversation. I obviously can’t say why, but combined with everything else, it did not inspire confidence. To be fair, I want to emphasize that they were courteous and professional while they were here. They put protective foot coverings on before coming inside to prevent tracking dirt through my home, and they did a good job cleaning up afterward. I genuinely appreciated that. But ultimately, the experience left me feeling like the goal was to get me into a very expensive service rather than work through the problem step-by-step. Also, why not just fix the problem first and then offer the preventative package? Roto-Rooter only mentioned their preventative maintenance package after the work was completed and the drain was flowing again. I would have been much more receptive to that approach. I can’t speak to anyone else’s experience, but based on mine, I left feeling uncomfortable with the recommendation and the way the options were presented. I really wish I had called Roto-Rooter first. At least I was only out the $60-something service fee and not the $1,300+ they quoted me.”

“Not super impressed with these guys. The technician who came out last week on 7/1, Mason, he was great. It is not him I have an issue with, not his fault he didn't have the part he needed to connect our range to our gas line. But trying to get someone to come out since? A nightmare. I want to talk to someone HERE, not someone at a call center I can barely understand and who cannot seem to grasp what I am asking for. We were planning on paying the yearly service membership but not anymore. Once the work is finally done, a week after we were originally scheduled, maybe I can change this. But first impression is pretty disappointing honestly.”
