“My A/C unit stopped blowing cold air. I called Dave’s as most of the Google reviews seemed positive. Well, the few dissatisfied reviews were correct in my experience and very similar. UPSELL and OVER PRICED are the two words that best describe this company. Here’s my experience. The technician was courteous and somewhat knowledgeable. However, it was not enough to be what sticks in my mind. It was obvious after a few short minutes of trouble shooting, which indicated only “potential” problems in the future, that the technician’s main goal (personal or directed by the company) is to UPSELL based on presumptuous information, not facts, as to why my A/C unit kicked the breaker and duration of life remaining. His reasons were solely based on presumption of the existing installation and unit and the current status of the company that installed it. Their prices are EXTREMELY high. So to justify the tech said things like, "the "probably" did such and such wrong when they installed but WE do this and this which is better, and I think they went out of business as a result" Lastly, he lied or didn't take the time to correctly identify the size of my existing unit when I asked him. I know all of this because I sent him on his way with just the $88 service fee, which for what he did (took a couple electrical readings and a Freon test that took all of about 20 minutes) was ridiculous. But he took a good 30 minutes to try and upsell me an entire new unit. I sent him on his way( at 7:30 pm) with an "I'll give you a call if I decide to buy". Then I went in and watched a few Youtube videos on A/C trouble shooting. Based on HIS numbers, my unit is fine. I also thought I'd give a call to the company that installed the original unit to see if in fact they were out of business. NOPE! They answered the phone at 10:30 pm, gave me to the point valid advice answered all my questions and for FREE! I will NEVER use Dave's Appliance Repair again.”

“My husband made the mistake of using Dave's Appliance for a kitchen appliance repair. The service technician was unable to diagnose the problem during his visit, and we decided not to have him do any further work as we were concerned about his qualifications. We were charged $88 for the service call (the invoice clearly states appliance service calls are $68), and we will never use them again.”

“I called these guys on a Tuesday late afternoon. They said they couldn't make it out that day and I scheduled an appointment for Wednesday from 1-3. They said they didn't have anything that day at that time. I work nights and usually sleep until 2 or 3, so I set my alarm for 1. At 1:05, they called me and said the guy was on his way. By 2:35, I called them and asked where he was at. They said he "got lost" and he would be there in 15 minutes. By 3:05, I called them back and told them they obviously do not want my money and I will willingly oblige to that. Will never call them again and will tell everyone to call someone else.”

“When you call to have them come out and look at your outdoor patio drain they will quote you that a standard drain cleaning is $59.99. But when the technician actually gets to your house they will tell you that's only for something like a kitchen sink and you need a service that costs $1400. Bait and switch. Dishonest. Also they left my property an absolute mess. Mud all over my patio, mulch washed out of my garden beds, trash in my driveway. Also I paid for the system to be hydrob jet but there's clearly still sediment in this outlet which they left the cap off of. And they didn't put my downspout back together properly after taking it apart. Luckily I found the screw on the patio while cleaning up their mess. And they left my hose attached to the spigot instead of how they found it and coiled it back up with kinks in it. And they didn't even fix it. The drain still doesn't drain. Update: Despite the response from the alleged owner nobody has reached out to me for any resolution. They are not sorry and do not care.”

“July 2026 - I started using American a few years ago when my old toilets and pipes started clogging regularly. Their technicians were very responsive, timely, professional, and thorough. After $30,000 of plumbing, restoration, and sheetrock repairs to deal with those old pipes, they were at the top of my list whenever I needed plumbing help. Fast forward to this summer when the hot water line under my sink sprung a leak. I called American and scheduled an appointment. No one showed up during the scheduled window, and I rescheduled them for the next day. Same thing: no one showed up, and I rescheduled again. Same thing AGAIN. They used to have real people answering the phone, but now it seems that calls go through some kind of foreign-based call center, and dealing with the call center is unbearable. Every time I called to try to figure out what was going on, I would end up talking to some person with some accent that I could barely understand and who obviously wasn't listening or understanding the words I was saying because every response was clearly just a reading of whatever comment they were supposed to say next according to the script, which made no sense in the actual context of the conversation. This went on for a week until finally I called late in the afternoon and miraculously spoke to an intelligent-sounding un-accented person who wasn't reading from a script. She was deeply disturbed by the rigmarole I had gone through and scheduled me for the first appointment slot the next morning and promised me that someone would show up because she had the permissions set so that no one could pre-empt my appointment. The tech was several hours late anyway, and when I called to inquire (and got the foreign call center again), they told me that it was because the tech had to stop for parts on the way. Obviously this was a lie because no one had even been to my house yet to diagnose the problem, so there is no reason why any parts would be known or needed yet. Finally someone showed up, diagnosed the problem, and said they would need a supervisor to confirm it. A supervisor was able to come to the house later that day, and proceeded to tell me I needed a $33,000 complete re-piping of my house. No thanks. I'll just do the $3500 repair for the leak. I called (the call center) and paid my 50% deposit for them to begin the work. Another week went by and I never heard anything, but I assumed the work had surely been done, so I called to see about paying the second half of the bill. The call center informed me that there was nothing due because they had simply done a complimentary service call, and I about lost my mind. I had paid over $1700, there most certainly was work to be done, and they had taken my money and not done anything for a week! I did my best to not yell at the foreigner because obviously they're just the messenger, but what the actual heck is going on!? Finally the call center guy figured out that no one had ever been scheduled to do the repair, so would I like to schedule that now? Yes, please. And not surprisingly, no one showed up. Again and again, same as before. I waited until a late afternoon so I could call and talk to the competent woman who had helped me before. She was able to schedule someone to come a couple days later and finish the work. All tolled, it took THREE weeks to get the leak fixed, because 90% of the time was spent not doing a darn thing. I will never ever use American again. August 2026 edit - The new GM called me and explained that my issues were not unique and they are working on resolving these problems for everyone. The technicians have consistently been some of the friendliest, hardest working service people I have ever dealt with, so it seems there was a [hopefully temporary] breakdown in management. Good luck!”

“WAAAY overpriced. I got the same system they proposed for $10k less. I also had their electrician come out to troubleshoot some grounding issues and replace electrical outlets that did not work. He did not complete the job and had to come back, and he seemed a bit put out in his attitude. He still did not finish the job. We hired another contractor. I do not recommend.”

“It took the tech 3 trips to finish the work and they never did hook up the refrigerator to the reverse osmosis system but continued to charge for it. We finally got them to take the charge off after 4 or 5 calls. Also, they charged $1200 to purchase and install the RO system. I've installed the exact same system myself for $300 so I believe their pricing is a bit exorbitant. The workmanship isn't to rave about either. I do not recommend.”

“They called me and set an appointment for hvac service. I waited until past their 4 hour windows and noone showed inspite of their multiple texts to remind me of the appointment. No texts, no phone calls. Just left me waiting. They already had my money so I guess it was no big deal to them. Based on this and previous experience I would call them American Rooter and Drain Your Bank Account.”

“Disappointed and overpriced. The guys were nice but the work was not. We agreed to some work on our hvac system and then they came in and said they needed 1500 more to do the job they said they would do. We ended up with 6 holes in the wall instead of 1. The spots they cut out our drywall, they left with holes. Did not vacuum up their mess and dust. An extra external hole and orange goop on the siding to cover the hole they said they would go through. The thermostat they exchanged our good one is bottom of the line. We were promised bluetooth, we can't even set a schedule anymore. Please keep looking. Don't use these guys for big jobs.”

“We had an extremely disappointing experience with American Rooter & Drain. After getting quotes from two other companies, it became very clear that American Rooter was charging us drastically more — nearly 10 times higher in some areas. The biggest issue was the way they handled the job. They started the work, then suddenly “discovered” additional problems and claimed we would need another 20 feet of concrete ripped up, with an added estimate of $20,000–$30,000. It felt very manipulative and fear-based, as though they were trying to scare us into approving unnecessary work. Thankfully, we got second and third opinions. The additional work American Rooter claimed was necessary turned out to be completely unnecessary. Another company completed the repair easily without the extra demolition or outrageous costs. To make matters worse, the plumbing work American Rooter already completed was criticized by the other professionals we hired afterward. We were told the angle and setup they installed was basic incorrect plumbing work and “not how it should be done.” Chris, the manager, was especially concerning to deal with. In my opinion, he was dishonest, unethical, and extremely misleading throughout the process. If you read through reviews on BBB and Nextdoor, you’ll notice similar patterns from other customers — large upsells, pressure tactics, financing pushes, and people feeling taken advantage of after work has already begun. I was especially disturbed seeing complaints from elderly customers who felt pressured or misled. Another thing worth mentioning: they strongly encourage customers to leave 5-star reviews while workers are still present. That explains a lot about the rating score. I’ve also noticed several reviews later being edited after customers experienced failed work or warranty issues. It’s upsetting to see a company market itself heavily as veteran-owned and faith-based while operating in what feels like such a predatory manner. I don’t know how the owner and his managers can prey on elderly or anyone for that matter, and go home and look his wife and kids in the eye. Just run an ethical business! It’s not that hard. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get multiple opinions and multiple quotes before agreeing to any major work.”

“They are unable to reliably meet the appointment times that they schedule. This is very inconvenient and stressful for anyone who works during the weekdays or rearranges their work schedule to accommodate the service. I would not recommend.”

“I can only say, Stay clear of this company. Although I was sure this would be my company based on their Veteran owned blah blah blah Although I reminded the young man I had cameras EVERYWHERE. and someone would be watching. Let me just say. Stay clear of this company. Keep searching. But do not let them in.”
